Terms of Service

1. What this is

Lavender Street (“we”, “us”, “the platform”) helps people in Mumbai find homes for street animals — Phase 1 covers cats. It is operated by [YOUR FULL NAME / ENTITY NAME], [ADDRESS], India. By using lavenderstreet.org (“the service”), you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

2. Who can use this

You must be 18 or older to create an account, post a listing, or send an enquiry. Browsing listings doesn’t require an account and has no age gate, but adopting an animal is an adult responsibility and we treat it that way throughout the service.

3. What we are, and what we are not

We are a connector. We give people a way to post an animal, find one, and exchange enough information to meet and decide whether an adoption makes sense. We are not a party to any adoption, we do not own, board, transport, or medically evaluate any animal, and we do not verify that what someone posts is accurate — the triage questions, screening form, and moderation review are there to filter for good faith, not to guarantee it.

We are not a veterinary service, a shelter, a courier, or a payment processor. Any deposit mentioned on a listing is an arrangement directly between the person rehoming and the adopter — we display the amount and record whether it was returned, but no money moves through the platform.

4. Your responsibilities when posting a listing

• Post animals honestly — real photos of the actual animal, accurate age/health/temperament to the best of your knowledge, and a real way to reach you.
• Answer the triage questions truthfully. They exist to divert animals that shouldn’t be rehomed toward sterilise-and-return instead — gaming them defeats the point and can genuinely harm an animal that was better off where it was.
• Don’t post the same animal more than once, and don’t post on behalf of someone else without their knowledge.
• Take the sterilisation deposit and the screening answers seriously — they’re the platform’s main defence against people collecting animals to resell, and that defence only works if rehomers actually use it.

5. Your responsibilities when enquiring or adopting

• Answer the screening questions honestly.
• Don’t send more enquiries than you genuinely intend to follow up on — the platform limits how many you can have open at once specifically because of this.
• If you adopt, honour the commitments in the adoption agreement you and the rehomer sign: sterilise if not already done, don’t resell or pass the animal on without offering it back to the rehomer first, and return the animal to the rehomer rather than a shelter or the street if you’re ever unable to keep it.
• Respond to check-in requests after adoption with a photo — this is how the platform (and the person who rehomed the animal) knows things are going okay.

6. Prohibited conduct

You may not use the service to:

• Post fake listings, misrepresent an animal, or collect animals for resale, breeding for sale, or research.
• Harass, threaten, or attempt to defraud another user.
• Circumvent the anti-abuse features — the enquiry cap, the triage gate, or the moderation queue.
• Use the service for anything unlawful under Indian law, including cruelty to animals under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

We can remove a listing, block an account, or both, if we reasonably believe any of the above is happening. We’ll usually tell you why. We won’t always be able to tell you in advance.

7. Content you post

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. By posting them, you give us a licence to display them on the site, in the poster images the service generates, and anywhere you choose to share those posters yourself. You confirm you have the right to post what you post, and that it doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights.

We can remove content that violates these terms or that we’re required to remove by law, without needing your permission first.

8. No warranty

The service is provided “as is”. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular listing is accurate — we moderate listings, we don’t verify them like a background check. We don’t promise any animal posted is healthy, and we don’t promise any adopter is suitable — that judgment stays with the people meeting each other, which is exactly why the screening questions, home visits, and deposit exist.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent Indian law allows, we are not liable for disputes between users, the condition or conduct of any animal, harm arising from an adoption arranged through the service, or losses from your use of the service beyond our reasonable control. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from the app. We handle what happens to your data the same way the privacy policy describes. We can suspend or terminate an account for violating these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we’ll tell you by email (if we have one) and show a notice on the site before the change takes effect.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
